Special Needs Education
Special needs education as The first project of FHR was at Umutara Deaf School (UDS), offering residential placement to ensure that all deaf children throughout Eastern Province Rwanda could attend. With the offer from the Government of a 2.5-acre plot of land, Umutara was formed in 2006, beginning with 14 deaf children. By 2007, 86 deaf children were boarding there, facing a significant challenge of insufficient school equipment and enough food for children. However, the following year was a turnaround with organizations from Germany (Rhenanie palatinate) and Canada (A Batter World Canada) trying to offer them some equipments, infrastructures, and food security.
